The following scan shows another pair of very scarce serienscheine issued in Hamburg. On the reverse, can be seen a picture/caricature of the stereotypical Jewish man. It is a known piece of Judaica.......anything with a link to the Jewish (Judah) people or their history.
The translation of the verse is:
- The Polish Jews oh my oh my with every man are standing by.
- Newspaper, top hat, cigar smoke
- already makes for a big stroke.
- In the newspaper he does read
- solely the Michel can help recuperate. (the 'Michel' is a nickname for Hamburg's main church, St. Michaelis)
- And now from Germany take they want
- the last of our last for the new Poland.
The translation of the second note, reads:
- With granade in hand, the cockerel has to leave the land.
- He can't woo the hen, the crowing is only for the children.
(Goehren is a term for children, similar where children might be called 'brats' in English.)
